The largest and most widespread heron in North America, the Great Blue heron stands approximately 60cm tall and is up to 137cm long with wingspan of 2 meters and more. The males of great blue heron are slightly larger than females and in the breeding season males are adorned by several long black plumes on the back of their crown. The great blue heron is very adaptable bird, its menu includes large fish, frogs, mice and even small birds and insects. But sometimes heron can choke to death trying to swallow too large fish.
